Carl Sonny Leyland

It's no wonder critics call him one of the best vintage boogie woogie piano players in the world. His styles range from early 1900's blues, ragtime and stride piano, to 30's & 40's boogie woogie and rhythm & blues, to 50's pumping rock n roll. Influenced by many masters of the 88's such as Fats Waller, Jimmy Yancey, James P. Johnson, Cow Cow Davenport, Little Brother Montgomery, Jelly Roll Morton, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Carl has grown a dangerously addictive piano playing repertoire. Top it off with a voice for hollerin' the blues, and you too will be downright diggin' it.

Carl has been seen playing ragtime, stride, barrelhouse, boogie and blues festivals across the globe. He also spent some years as Big Sandy & his Fly-Right Boys piano man. Carl is accompanied by the doghouse bass playing of Marty Eggers and the skin beatin' of Hal Smith.
